Co-owner, Director of Technology and Development
- Designed and wrote custom software for a stock charting web site using
Linux/FreeBSD and Apache web servers.
- Built an optimized database for high-speed access to historical chart data
and wrote code in C for generating images in split-second time.
- Also wrote Apache modules to cache user information across a
cluster of servers.
- Performance exceeded one million page views per day using only
ten Pentium-class computers.

Engineering Manager, Software Architect
- Managed Software Engineers in many groups across the company.
- Wrote data feed systems, including rapid database updates, in Perl and C
that provided many of the features on the Excite.com web site.
- Designed and implemented a Flash player for interactive television
(on set-top boxes) that used the Excite databases.
- Worked with a capacity planning team to gather and process large volumes
of network performance data and provide metrics and graphs of the data.

- Designed and implemented one of the first Internet e-commerce systems
on the web (back in 1995) which sells and delivers financial publications online.
- Managed all technical aspects of the web site including data feeds,
credit card authorization, multiple databases for full-text searching,
product information, customer authentication, purchases and subscriptions.
- This web site is still profitable today using the same architecture
I developed ten years ago.

- Responsible for the production of software and database systems for
multimedia retrieval on client/server systems.
- Authored a 90-page technical specification and coordinated the work
of software developers to the successful completion of a major
enhancement of a library system.
- Implemented an international version that stored, searched, retrieved
and displayed non-standard character sets in million-record databases;
this system is now in use at libraries in Europe, Australia and North America.
- Represented the company at quarterly meetings of an international
standards committee for the Internet database protocol Z39.50.

- Wrote statistical analysis programs in FORTRAN for oceanographic
research of weather patterns and global warming.
